Dieting and weight loss not one in the same

Keeping the weight off is the trick - 04/22/2007

It's has been proclaimed before, dieting does not work! As with many things, this phrase needs to be qualified. It is not losing weight that so many people struggle with, but keeping that weight off. Most people get that taste of success, but few can parlay it into long term and permanent results.

Most recently in the news we saw a study at UCLA that analyzed 31 diet studies that observed people two to five years following diets. Very few were able to maintain their weight loss while one-third to two-thirds gained it all back. While this study could be telling to those who are not really paying attention, most of us probably have friends or personally have run into the same issue. So then the question becomes, dieting and what results in permanent weight loss?

One place to go is with your question is your doctor. Other persons who could be useful on your quest might be a personal trainer or nutritionist. The idea here is that your personal answer could be a combination of things. This is why it preplexes me so that people would assume that since something works for someone else's body and lifestyly that the same would apply to them. Temperments and body chemical make ups cover a wide spectrum. Figure your own out and you'll be better armed to achieve the success that they crave.

Maybe you just need another friend to go down the road with you and for each of you to hold each other accountable. Perhaps a bit of exercise will not only bring you your weight loss goals, but also make you feel like a new person. Then again, your doctor might find a medical reason on why you have weight loss difficulty and medication is part of your answer to a healthy image. Don't find your answers on the TV set or between the pages of magazines. Not to say that these sources cannot give you ideas for your own personal road, but I really feel that seeking out personal answers from trained professionals is the way to go. It might not be as convenient, it might be a little more expensive, but if your not willing to put that effort and investment in, you must not want to succeed that badly.
